The Civil Wars memorized the audience at a sold out show in The Brown Theater Friday evening. The duo of Joy Williams and John Paul White entertained mostly with only their amazing vocals and White’s guitar. Williams spend a handful of songs on the keyboards but this show  was all about  mixing two incredible voices sharing leads and harmonies. What is special about their show is the ability to perform in a no frills atmosphere where any mistake would be readily identified. Backed by Paul’s excellent guitar they kept the audience entertained with splendid duets. It’s just two performers blending their voices while Williams dances around Paul’s guitar.

The pair’s strong set included all of their “Barton Hollow” album”  which appeared on many music magazines best of 2011 list. The band did do reworked covers of  The Jackson Five’s, I Want You Back” and began their encore with Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean”. It was a beautiful show based on tremendous talent.

The Staves, The sisters from England opened the show displaying great vocal harmonies backed only by guitar and ukulele. The very talented group set the tone for a magical evening of vocal excellence.

I am very fortunate to be able to combine my love of photography with my interest in nature, sports and entertainment. I began photographing images of product, people and places for print material and later for the web. While I love photographing the excitement of sports and the beauty of nature, my favorite genre is event photography. It’s the most challenging work in the business. Unpredictable lighting, crowded venues, moving targets, and limited shooting times are the norm. Those challenges combined with the excitement of live performances create my favorite photo settings. My equipment consists of Nikon D3S and D700 cameras with a large assortment of wide angle and zoom lenses. You can contact me at at bluestrain@aol.com
